INTERIOR FEATURES
Walking through the front door into the entry foyer, you get your first
taste of the home’s surprising detail and immaculately maintained
craftsmanship. The floors are light brown slate flagstone—sealed and spotless.
The pine paneled walls and doors glow with warmth. An antique stained
glass window adorns the interior wall.
The home is a well-balanced combination of timeless and rustic,
custom-made and thoughtful. High ceilings and abundant windows make the
spaces expansive and calming. From the bold choice of paint colors, to
the handmade bathroom sink basins, to the recycled barnwood walls, this
unassuming home offers unexpected and enchanting details.
As you enter the main room, it is difficult not to be taken aback by the
crisp and vivid scene before you—both inside and outside of the large
picture windows. A hallway of 12-inch pine plank flooring runs the
length of the living room’s north wall. Two steps down from the hallway,
the living room has a tan flagstone floor, deep red walls, soaring wood
plank ceilings, and windows facing south and west that offer truly
awesome views of the Elk Mountain Range. Name a peak, and you can see
it. You can also see the ski runs of Aspen Mountain and Snowmass. A
Jotul woodstove in forest green ceramic—and a square brick chimney—mark
the center of the room. French doors open onto the south facing patio.
The north side of the room is bounded by the main level and upper level
hallways, both of which are open to the vast living area, views, and
southern exposure. Built in bookshelves and pine boards cover the north
wall. The hallway ends in a door out to the west side of the porch.
The main floor guest bedroom and bath are accessed from the hallway. The
bedroom has charming antique French doors, windows to the west, recycled
barnwood walls, and a vivid green ceiling. As in most of the house, the
room features recessed lighting and windows are covered with refined
roman shades.
The main floor bath is accessed from the guest bedroom and from the
hallway. Wallpaper in grey tweed has red flecks to match the red
ceiling. Grey brick tile covers the vanity top and the walls of the
oversized, glass-doored shower. The pine cabinetry has round porcelain
pulls, continuing the home’s vintage yet timeless design themes. The
basin sink is handmade, uniquely finished ceramic.
Taking the hallway to the east side of the house, you’ll find a secondary
exterior door that would likely become a family’s primary entrance.
Royal blue walls and pine plank flooring cover the two rooms on either
side of the door. To the left of the entry, a mud room with abundant
pine shelving, and cabinetry provides ample space for shucking off
winter gear before entering the main house. To the right, the large
laundry room has a large utility sink, additional cabinets, shelves and
clothing racks, as well as a tried-and-true Maytag washer/dryer pair.
The secondary entrance opens into the formal yet welcoming dining room.
Dark gray slate flagstone floors, barnwood wainscoting and yellow
wallpaper in a traditional floral print are matched with a brass, five
candle chandelier. French doors lead out to the east-facing deck and
serene lawn. One full wall of the dining room is pine cabinetry—a
sideboard topped in forest green tile and lit with brass sconces, a full
pantry, and a wine rack.
Entering the kitchen from the dining room, you are greeted with sunshine.
The spacious kitchen is floored with the same slate flagstone, and the
walls are a brilliant royal blue that perfectly complements the
plentiful pine cabinetry. The cabinetry pulls are white ceramic with
delft blue details to match the hand painted white tile of the
countertops. A mobile center island with wood chopping block top is
ready for your weekly supply of fresh local produce from the valley’s
farmer’s markets.
The diagonally set sink sits beneath four windows in the southeast corner
of the kitchen. Views like these make dinner dishes a joy, not a chore.
The kitchen is outfitted with a Jenn-Air electric four-burner cook top,
two black-fronted GE ovens, a stainless steel Fisher and Paykel double
drawer dishwasher, a Panasonic countertop stainless microwave and a
wood-paneled Sub Zero refrigerator.
One of the home’s delightful surprises is the south-facing sunroom
accessed from the kitchen. Skylights and windows on four sides make this
an ideal place to spend winter mornings surrounded by the warmth of the
sun. Grass green walls, flagstone floors, and rustic finishes enhance
the “greenhouse” feel, and there’s even a workbench for your pots and
gardening tools. The small garden plot outside your windows receives
enough summer sun to support a tomato plant or two!
Taking the wood-paneled stairwell to the upper level, you’ll find two
guest bedrooms joined by a Jack-and-Jill bath and the master suite. The
floors are wide pine planks.
The upstairs hallway looks out over a wood railing to the living room. The
hall is lined with skylights and built-in bookshelves against red walls.
At the west end of the hallway, the first of the two upstairs guest
bedrooms has red walls, windows on three sides and views down the
Roaring Fork Valley to Glenwood Springs. The vaulted, wood board ceiling
peaks to a thick pine beam.
The shared guest bathroom has a double vanity and red-and-black hunter
plaid wallpaper. The pine vanity cabinetry is topped in brick-style gray
tile, and the two basins are handmade ceramic. Two wood frame mirrors
hang over the sinks, and in between them, a window looks out over the
front drive. The grey ceiling is dotted with recessed lighting.
The second guest bedroom has the same peaked ceiling and red walls. The
built-in shelving in the closet even has drawers. But the room’s special
feature, sure to delight young and old, is the crow’s nest loft just at
the top of the sturdy ladder stair. Barnwood walls, oak floors, and a
vaulted ceiling frame sweeping views out of four windows. Whatever your
age, this room makes you smile.
At the east end of the hallway, the generous and airy master suite is
fabulous in royal blue walls and pine plank floors. The wood slat
ceiling soars up to a pine wood beam at its peak. The south side of the
bedroom is a sitting area carpeted in grey Berber. Wood walls frame
panoramic Elk Mountain views. Windows on three walls are covered in
roman shades in off-white linen. Handsome open truss wood beams add
visual interest.
The master bath welcomes you to de-stress in the warmth of its golden wood
walls, floors, and vaulted ceilings. A glass enclosed shower, tiled in
green, sits next to an oval whirlpool jetted tub. Windows to the south
and east provide views of Basalt mountain and wooded tranquility.
The extra-long vanity has two handmade, teal glazed ceramic basins.
Between the sinks, a “make up” area is topped with perhaps the largest
tilting round mirror you’ll ever see. Swinging doors separate the
commode from the main bathroom.
The master closet, accessed through the bath, is literally the size of a
one-car garage. It’s enormous, and has built-in shelving, drawers,
clothes rods, shoe holders—you name it.
Taking the stairs down to the home’s lower level, you’ll discover another
wealth of spaces. A lock-out half door leads to an extensive under-stair
storage area. The mechanical room has more storage and workspace, as
well as a half-size Holiday freezer.
The real prize on the lower level, however, is an enormous bonus room that
looks perfect for use as a dance studio, workout area or media room.
Floor-to-ceiling mirrors cover one long wall, barnwood covers the
opposite wall and, at the end of the room behind four sliding doors,
there is a huge storage area equipped with sturdy shelving.
The versatile outbuilding contains two garage bays and a studio/office
area with south-facing sunroom.
Each garage bay has folding glass French doors AND automatic garage doors.
Each also has storage cabinetry and workbenches, and east-facing
windows. Currently, one bay is used as a woodshop.
The office/studio area has built-in desk space, wall-mounted bookshelves,
and vaulted ceilings. Double doors lead into the south-facing sun room.
The floor is brick, and there are roman shade-covered French doors on
three sides. This is the perfect place to dream up your next big idea or
your next big adventure.
EXTERIOR FEATURES
An entry bell sounds to alert you when a vehicle has turned onto your
curving asphalt driveway.
Charming delicate wildflowers—daisies, flax, lupine—line the drive and
welcome you to your personal oasis. At the perimeter of your view plane,
wildflowers yield to indigenous scrub oak and sage that comprise the
majority of your gently sloping three-acre parcel.
Copper standing lanterns lead down wide concrete stairs to the wrap-around
front porch. Whiskey barrel planters are evenly spaced between the
porch’s log posts. The porch spans the east, north, and west sides of
the home. Patina-ed metal sconces provide subtle evening light.
The home itself is finished in stained cedar boards and cedar shake
shingles. The windows are metal clad and finished in deep red.
The deck off of the home’s dining room opens out to the east, onto a large
and ultra-private lawn edged with a railroad tie wall. Beyond the wall,
a hedge of scrub oak provides further privacy. You can imagine indulging
in sunny morning breakfasts and shady afternoon games of croquet.
A flagstone path leads around to the south-facing patio at the rear of the
house. Here, you can watch the sunset alpenglow on Mt. Sopris peak and
fade, giving way to deep blue skies filled with stars. A smattering of
faintly glowing lights from the meadowland homes and ranches below gives
you a feeling of safety, comfort, warmth.
A bank of solar panels provides power to the home, keeping your electric
bills low and your conscience clean.
ADDITIONAL REMARKS
Your home is located to enjoy the best of “rural” and “urban.” What feels
like a secluded haven is only minutes from the mid-valley’s abundant
amenities, restaurants, and entertainment.
The Aspen Mountain View neighborhood is carefully planned, with adjacent
houses placed at a tasteful distance. You’d hardly know you had
neighbors—except for the fact that when you need help, they are ready
and willing to lend a friendly helping hand.
The Homeowner’s Association also provides access to a private pool and
tennis court facilities for all homeowners to enjoy.
Your view plane is forever preserved, and a portion of the meadowlands in
the foreground of your vistas have been deeded as open space.
In addition to your human neighbors, your community is filled with
wildlife. Birds of every shape and size visit your feeders, including
the most hummingbirds you’ve ever seen at one time. The deer reside for
all four seasons, and the elk settle in for the winters. A family of
foxes brings new kits to the neighborhood every spring.
